Concept car : Cadillac Bringing CTS-V Coupe 2010

Cadillac has revealed that a V-Series high-performance variant of the new 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe will share the spotlight with a new concept at the Detroit auto show next month. The concept is believed to be a pre-production version of either the ATS or XTS small and large cars that Cadillac has been teasing over the past year or so.

So far, Cadillac has released only this tightly cropped teaser picture of the unnamed concept and the promise that it will showcase the latest advances in Cadillac's Art and Science design language. While the picture purposely obscures the vehicle, we can see that it is a sedan and bears significant resemblance to the current CTS but with new headlights and mirrors likely too small to see production.

Based on information provided by our own Todd Lassa during a no-photographs open house at GM headquarters back in August, we believe this concept is the XTS. Lassa described the XTS as having a short axle-to-dash ratio and a grille that blended styling elements of the Sixteen and Converj concepts. The car he was shown was also painted gray while the ATS was painted blue, though GM has had more than enough time to repaint them. The ATS, meanwhile, was described as having a shorter, wider grille to make the car look wider, not taller. This picture appears to suggest a larger car, but the angle makes it difficult to be certain.

If it is the XTS, it will most likely be built on a stretched version of GM's Epsilon II FWD architecture and will likely feature the 3.6L direct-injection V-6 engine and will offer AWD. If it's the ATS, it will be RWD-based and will likely utilize both V-6 and four-cylinder engines. Both cars are planned for a 2011 debut likely as 2012 models.

Concept Car : Pontiac G8 ST 2010

When General Motors announced that some models were going to be postponed, I thought for sure the niche market G8 ST would be on the short list. It’s just such an oddball vehicle in the grand scheme of things, cool, but not a mainstream model like the Chevy Cruze that was pushed back a year due to cost cutting restraints. Fortunately for car-based pickup truck fans, or utes as they’re known in Australia where GM’s Holden division makes a version of this very truck, it’s on schedule for a 2010 model year launch later in 2009.

“There are no efforts to delay the truck,” commented Pontiac spokesman Jim Hopson to PickupTrucks.com. “Construction is scheduled to start in July 2009, and the first G8 STs are expected to go on sale here in the fall of 2009.”

The point of its origins is the main reason why it’s not being held back. After all, Holden has done all the ground work for a vehicle that will sell in massive quantities, so why not revise it and rebrand it for the North American market? A sort of reborn El Camino, of sorts.

El Camino in mind, GM had a little marketing fun coming up with the new pickup’s name, creating some buzz about the product in the process. It only took 18,000 submissions, with most playing the “Tame the Name” game wanting the new sport truck to be dubbed El Camino, despite it being a Pontiac rather than a Chevy, and the winning submission was… ST. Yes, that’s the same name GM used when introducing the truck at the New York International Auto Show last March, and to be fair, it was popular among nominators too.

Concept Car : Bugatti Royale

Bugatti has stated that it is not going anywhere, and that there be an entry-level model. (Never mind the fact that an “entry level” Bugatti could still cost $800,000.) What they haven’t stated is what kind of model it will be, except to say that it will remain the best of the best.

We aren’t sure who’s responsible for the rendering above, but if Bugatti were to go the sedan/limo route, this is one person’s idea of a new Bugatti Royale. From this angle, we are definitely in. It’s a car in which we could see going very fast, very comfortably, on our way to Biarritz with three of those damsels we met at the craps table in Monaco.

From the rear, however… well, things go less… winningly. We can understand the concept of a shooting brake — but a Bugatti Royale Wagon? Looking at that elegantly sloping expanse just makes us want to go shopping. Very quickly, still, and for very expensive stuff… but shopping nonetheless.

Concept Car : LOTUS EUROPA i6 MID 2010

This is a concept from South African designer Idries Noah the Lotus Europa i6 which looks a bit like the Elise/ Exige.
The Europa i6 concept study is a mid-engined, rear wheel drive sports car inspired in terms of design by the classic Europa and Elite as well as by the latest Lotus models. The independent designer supports that ideally, the Europa i6 would weigh in at about 2,030 lbs (920 kg) with power coming from a 2.0-liter supercharged inline six-cylinder engine.
In theory, he says that the sports car would sprint from zero to 100 km/h (62mph) in 7 seconds and on to a top speed of 165 mph or 265 km/h. Leaving aside the theoretical technical specs, Idries’ take on a compact mid-engined Lotus sports coupe hits the spot. Too bad it exists only in the digital world.
“I really liked the old classic Europa with the high rear section. It had character. The latest version looks very similar to the Elise/ Exige, not quite Europa. I decided to give it my own take. Inspired by classic Lotus cars, Europa and Elite. Also taking some current Lotus trends into consideration. It’s called the 2010 Europa i6.” Idries Noah said.

Concept Car : Peugeot RD Model Revealed in Shanghai

The Peugeot RD concept design of 27 year old Carlos Arturo Torres Tovar is now on exhibition as a full-size model at the 2009 Auto Shanghai in China. The Colombian has just graduated from the National University of Colombia where he studied Industrial Design.
His concept car was the winning project in Peugeot's 5th Annual Design Competition which saw prospects from 95 different nationalities submit over 2,500 projects. The theme for the contest was "Imagine the Peugeot of the Worldwide Megalopolis of tomorrow" which in essence asked them to picture the transportation needs of future megacities and design a vehicle to satisfy them.
What sold the RD concept for Peugeot and the selected jury was its high road-holding ability with ease of use in congested traffic, the environmentally friendly electric motor and the 3-wheeler's driving sensation of a sedan. It also features panoramic all-around visibility and head-up display. Peugeot has been building this show unit since October 2008.
On top of seeing his design come to life in a 1:1 scale, the winner also takes home a cheque for 10,000 euros and an Xbox 360 game console. Twenty nine short-listed entries also received certain prizes.

Concept Car : Futuristic - BRB Evolution

There are plenty of eco-friendly cars that are around in the market today giving everyone a wide range of options to choose from when they wish to go green. There are also many concept cars that are around which will hopefully one day hit the road as they seem to be a wonderful alternate to the available models filled with green features and loaded with design improvements that really are of great use in everyday life.

The BRB Evolution is a very interesting concept apart from the name itself which is pretty nice if you ask me. The BRB is a car designed to free you up from parking hassles and it is designed to reduce the energy consumed by all those parking lots by reducing the parking space. The concept is so simple and yet so fundamentally sound that it holds your attention and you really have very little to be skeptical about. If you reduce the space of parking for each car, the parking lot accommodates more number of them leading to the requirement of less number of parking lots!

This car concept is called BRB Evolution, because it has the ability of this car to fold up to 50% of its original size. Daniel Bailey, the designer, figured the two of the main problems of the future in big cities would be the pollution and over population, he wanted to design a car which powered by electricity and a hydrogen fuel cell to deal with the pollution issue, while the fold-able concept is to help with the limited available parking space. Nice to see that modern designers are more and more often coming up with designs that address specific problems which in this case happen to be pollution and lack of space.

Model concept cars

The auto shows are amazing. They show all of these super cool looking cars that are to come and some of the new features on the current model cars. They also show new designs that will be implemented on current cars. As amazing as it is, there is one thing that gets me about these shows. It's the concept cars.
Concept cars are cars that are seriously being thought about publicly selling. When they show off a concept car they are getting feedback on the car they are thinking about releasing. Concept cars are usually not in final form but they can be almost completed as far as the body work goes.
One thing about concept cars is that they look really awesome. The new styling on some of these cars is just amazing to look at. Even if all you see are the pictures online! Now here lies the problem with concept cars. They are not done yet. They are like a teaser of the real car that may or may not be made available and produced for the public.
Take for instance the new Chevy Volt. A lot of buzz was created when GM introduced a concept car, the Chevy volt a few years ago. The car not only looked amazing it had some great features. It could run on all battery power and it did not use its gas engine to power the wheels. Instead it used its motor to power a generator to charge a set of batteries which then ran the car. Each wheel has an electric motor built in.
It has yet to be released, but it could be the style of car for the future. The future in which cars are electric. The problem is they ruined it! General Motors teased us with a beautiful looking car only to change its body style almost completely compared to the concept version. Now it looks like a Chevy Impala/Toyota Yaris smashed together. It is a bit different than the impala but it's too similar for my liking. There is nothing wrong with the impala but what GM had was a totally new style, a body for a new never released car. It looked great and would have stood out a lot. Now for the preview of the production car we get half of what we wanted.
So that's what bugs me about car shows and the concept cars. Just don't fall in love with a concept car too much as you may be disappointed by the production version.

Rhoades Car Quadcycles

Here's an odd ride: the Rhoades Car, a two-seater, four-wheel bike (quad?) that can be pedaled by one or both passengers to power through 36 hill-climbing gears. The company also makes four-seater and more ruggedized versions—you can even get a model powered by a pedal-electric hybrid motor. Accessories abound, with canopies, fenders, lights, and yes—chrome wheels.
