1958 Monaco Grand Prix

582

some of you might remember the little story of the 1955 Monaco Grand Prix i painted
.
.
well i have been busy again,
this time doing some impressions for you
of the 1958 Monaco Grand Prix
.
all four paintings are acrylic on paper and measure 5x7"
they will go as a set...

1958 Monaco Grand Prix

581

in 1958 a new order was emerging,
no longer was there the domination of the historic red cars from Italy
smaller teams from England with their innovations were beginning to take over

at the first lap no red car to be seen,it is the BRM from Behra,Brooks in the Vanwall and the Coopers of Brabham and Trintignant....

the big guns like Hawthorne in his Ferrari, above
and all the three Vanwalls like the Moss car below, retired

leaving the way for Trintignant in his little Rob Walker Cooper to win,
the first ever win at Monaco for a rear engined car

all acrylic on paper 5x7"

The year is 1972 and BRM has won their last race,
with a superb drive of J P Beltoise.
The rain was awfull in Monaco
and the silky smooth v12
was able to put the power down gently
on the slippery track

60's

DAY FIFTY-EIGHT

countdown to Melbourne

Jackie Stewart BRM,acrylic on canvas 12x24" sold

Things looked completely different in the sixties,

The engine restricted and in the back, the driver lying down resulted in much lower, smaller cars.
Cigar shaped in the colors of commercial sponsorship instead of the national colors.
Wings for downforce were sprouting.

Stretched monocoques instead of the complicated tube frames, the introduction of the ford DFV towards the end ,made it easier for small constructors to set up shop.
